I remember writing about this in the past.
I have also discussed this among young people in a forum-guide
re: choosing their vocations in life.
Allow me, then, to write about it, since I find it timely
in the midst of all this election fever.
*****
There was a young duck who felt that he was better than his siblings.
In a way, he was....he was really good at everything he does.
He learned how to swim faster than his brood.
He learned everything quickly, and excelled in many areas.
Soon, he found himself bored with life.
He wanted to try something more daring,
something unusual for a little Duck like him.
One day he asked Father Duck to teach him how to fly.
He saw some birds flying so well, he, too,
wanted to do the same.
He wanted to soar into the sky and show his fellow Ducklings
that he is a special Duck.
He was insitent that his Father relented and allowed him to go to a flying school,
with the condition that he never give up his swimming.
After all, Ducks are known the whole world over as best swimmers.
He promised to do as his Father willed,
and so off he went to the Flying School.
True to form, he was good.
Soon, he learned to fly and how!
He flew far and wide.
He learned many tricks.
He can do the somersault and the zoom and
many other side tricks.
Everyone was impressed.
But Father Duck was worried.
He must remind his Child Duck not to delve much into flying.
He must never forget how to swim.
But the young Duck was so full of himself.
He was so confident of his newly-gained skills.
He continued to fly until he was recognized as an expert flyer.
One time, a storm came and everyone was asked to evacuate and leave.
They have to swim their way to safety.
The storm was already brewing and there was no other way but the river.
Soon all were swimming along with the other Duck Families.
But the young Duck was afraid to wade in the water.
He has otally forgotten how to swim!
All those months he practised how to fly,
and became an expert flyer.....
But today, he was in trouble:
He cannot swim!
He simply forgot the basic way to swim!

IF you are a Duck,
SWIM, for God's sake!
Don't fly!
